It’s pretty simple:
If you yell for “a coffee,” it’ll run you 7 euros, about $9.50.
If you ask in a dulcet tone for “a coffee, please,” that will set you
back about $5.80.
But, get downright neighborly and start off with “Bonjour” and a smile,
and Fabrice will ring your coffee up
at only $1.90
M. Pepino mentions that his regular customers routinely greet him with “Hello, your highness, will you serve me one of your beautiful coffees?”
There’s no harm in being nice to your server, this is very doable, we
need something like this in the States.
