Most of the world's adults (ages 15
and up) aren't punching the clock for a paycheck. Surprised?
Gallup.com has a new report showing
that only about 26% of those folks are working full-time for any employer.
Even if you add in the folks who are
"working for the man" in a part-time job, you're still talking about only
a third of adults worldwide who work for someone else.
Let's not forget about the self-employed.
Gallup reports that 18% of adults work for themselves full-time.
There are 5.2 billion people on the
surface of the planet who are at least 15 years old. Almost half of them aren't
"working" in any commonly understood way.
Here in the U.S., and in many societies
around the world, we're a long, long way from our agricultural past when more or
less everyone old enough to work was doing something to put food on the table.
It seems a bit unnatural that so many
people aren't earning their daily bread.
