For
only the third time in his presidency, President Obama’s “job approval rating”
is making a strong showing above 50%, as reported by the Gallup organization.
Maybe
more folks are finally starting to realize that many of the president’s big
policy initiatives have had positive outcomes, even though they haven’t been as
successful as I or he had wished.
The
Affordable Care Act has brought millions of people under the umbrella of health
insurance coverage. Steps are being taken to start dealing with global climate
change. Trans-Pacific trade agreements are in place to counter the
military-economic gambits of China. Same-sex marriage has been legalized. The
national economy has steadily improved since the 2008 financial meltdown.
These
successes have become reality despite the unceasing attempts by Republicans to
block any move the president makes.
Or
maybe a lot of folks are taking a look at the appalling roster of Republican
candidates for the presidency, and seeing President Obama in a new light.
